Fan Trips

The TTS has sponsored several fan trips (charters) each year since it's inception in 1973. The majority of the charters have involved the Toronto Transit Commission's vehicles including buses, streetcars and trolley buses. Also, in the Society's most ambitious charters, subway trains were chartered for farewell trips to mark the end of service for the original red Gloucester trains (the first subway trains in Canada), the "Montrealers" (the first Canadian- built subway cars), and the last of the first generation subway cars, the H-4s.

Charters have also taken place outside the City of Toronto including southwestern Ontario (London, Kitchener, Brantford), eastern GTA transit properties (Ajax, Oshawa), western GTA transit properties (Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga), the Golden Horseshoe transit properties (Hamilton, St. Catharines, Welland), among others.

The TTS generally holds charters using unique transit vehicles, most often just prior to their retirement, often tracing historic routings.

The highlight of the TTS Fan Trips is "Transportation Weekend," which is held bi-annually on the Labour Day weekend. The weekend usually includes two charters (usually one streetcar and one bus) as well as slide presentations. Transportation Weekend takes places during even numbered years (2010, 2012, etc.).

Upcoming TTS Fan Trips

Transit Windsor Charter - Saturday, November 4, 2017 - Note the date
The TTS will charter a Transit Windsor Orion VI for a 5 hour charter of the greater Windsor and Detroit area. These buses are scheduled to be retired early in 2018 upon the arrival of new Nova LFS'. Locations will include the Rosa Parks Bus Terminal and the new Q Line streetcar. Times will be co-ordinated to allow for arrival and departure by VIA Rail service. For those driving, pick-up will be at the CACC Terminal at 11.30am, with return at 4.30pm.

Please note that as we will be travelling into the U.S. that a valid Passport (or equivalent ID - enhanced driver's licence or a valid NEXUS card) will be required to attend the event.

Note the date: Due to construction at the Detroit-Windsor tunnel, the charter date has been moved to November 4, 2017. The updated flyer is available below.
